WHAT IS CBD?
CBD is a chemical compound, known as a cannabinoid, that naturally occurs in the hemp plant. There are over 100 cannabinoids identified in hemp, and CBD is the most naturally prevalent. It is non-intoxicating and lacks psychoactive or euphoric effects. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in humans and animals to maintain internal balance, among other benefits.
WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM (ECS)?
The human brain and other organs contain naturally occurring cannabinoid (CB) receptors and the chemicals that bind to them. This is called the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). In fact, all mammals have their own version of the ECS, even pets!
The ECS helps keep metabolism in a state of homeostasis and function normally by influencing the functioning of other systems. It plays a critical role in the nervous system, and regulates multiple physiological processes. This includes the adjustment of response to pain, appetite, digestion, sleep, mood, inflammation, and memory.
Cannabinoids bind to specific CB receptors in the body produce their effects. So far, two types of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) have been identified with certainty. The CB1 receptor is found mainly in the brain and central nervous system. CB1 is also present in certain tissues and organs, such as the lungs, liver and kidneys. The CB2 receptors are mainly found on certain cells of the immune system, the gastrointestinal tract, and in immune-related organs such as the spleen and tonsils.
IS CBD SAFE TO GIVE TO MY PET?
CBD is just as safe for your pet as it is for you! We source the highest quality hemp available, and all of our products are produced in GMP/GLP certified facilities to pharmaceutical standards. We also only use broad spectrum CBD oil, meaning all Sativa Pet Love products are completely free of THC. Our products will not get your pet “high”, as CBD does not have the psychoactive effects that THC has.
HOW MUCH CBD DO I GIVE TO MY PET?
Just like with humans, CBD affects every animal differently. Generally speaking, larger animals will need a bigger dose of CBD than smaller, lighter animals. We recommend starting with small amounts and increasing the dose as needed. For more information about serving size, please visit our dosing page.
